R.J. JOHNSON SCORES 11TH WIN AT WESTERN WORLD OPENER

PEORIA, AZ – NOVEMBER 19, 2013... Leading all 30 laps, R.J. Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona took another step towards the USAC SouthWest crown by winning the opening night of the “46th Annual Sands Chevrolet Western World Championships presented by the Racers Advantage Store.” For Johnson, the Thursday night victory at Canyon Speedway Park marked the 11th series win of the campaign. Brady Bacon, Jerry Coons Jr., Dave Darland, and Aaron Reutzel rounded out the top five drivers.

Piloting the Bill Michaels’ owned #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, R.J. Johnson placed third in his heat race and ran third in his qualifying race. Starting on the pole position, the SouthWest point leader was not to be denied on this night, fighting off several challenges and executing brilliant restarts.

Brady Bacon of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma charged from seventh to claim second at the checkered flags. Driving the BBR #99 Fatheadz Eyewear / XXX Race Company entry, the versatile driver scored third in his heat race and scored sixth in his qualifier.

In his first night behind the Gerry Cook’s #4G Lucas Oil RSS, Tucson, Arizona’s Jerry Coons Jr. raced to third at Canyon after starting eighth. The veteran driver won the program’s second Racers Advantage Store Heat Race and took fifth in his qualifying heat.

“The People’s Champion” Dave Darland of Lincoln, Indiana scored fourth at the checkered flags. Piloting Keith Ford’s #73 Berry Pack / King Racing Products Spike, Darland claimed fifth in his heat race and won the night’s first Racers Advantage Store Qualifier.

Clute, Texas’ Aaron Reutzel earned his first “Hard Charger / Best Passing Job” honors with a fifth place finish after starting seventeenth. Racing Bob Miller’s #21A Car Parts Machine / BC Fundz J&J, Reutzel was seventh in his heat race, ran sixth in his qualifier, and won the 12-lap semi-main.

“Mighty” Mike Colegrove of Peoria, Arizona raced to victory in the night’s first 8-lap Racers Advantage Store Heat Race. Racing his #17M Precision Tile Inc. / Bell SouthWest Ellis, “Mighty Mike” scored third in his qualifier and placed sixth in the 30-lap main event.

Phoenix, Arizona’s Mike Bonneau claimed the checkered flag in the program’s third Racers Advantage Store Heat Race. Driving his #29 Priced Right Auto Sales Triple X machine, Bonneau finished ninth in his qualifier, scored fifth in his qualifier, and placed twentieth in the feature.

Colby Copeland of Roseville, California won the second 8-lap Racers Advantage Store Qualifying Race. Piloting Ted Williams’ #74 Bandit Racing / Marks Bolts Maxim, Copeland ran fifth in his heat race, and scored eighteenth in the feature after an early exit.

Surprise, Arizona’s Tom Ogle earned his first victory by taking the night’s third Racers Advantage Store Qualifying Race. Racing his #48 RSS Industries / JT Engineering machine, Ogle was fifth in his heat race and scored tenth in the 30-lap main event.
