USAC MANDATES NEW DIRT SPRINT CAR TIRE RULE FOR 2014
By Lance Jennings

SANTA MARIA, CA – JANUARY 28, 2014... For the 2014 campaign, the United States Auto Club (USAC) has mandated a unified tire rule for all of their dirt sprint car divisions. Currently used by the USAC West Coast and SouthWest Sprints, the Hoosier 105/16 Medium has been chosen as the official right rear tire. Competitors with the USAC National, USAC/CRA, and USAC Western Classic Series will have several races to use their older inventory of Hoosier HTW/HT2s before the change goes into effect. The changeover for the USAC National Series must be made May 1st.

USAC/CRA competitors can run the HTW/HT2s at their first four dates (2/28 Canyon, 3/1 Canyon, 3/15 Perris, and 4/12 Perris). At the May 3rd race at Perris Auto Speedway, the Hoosier 105/16 Medium will be the ONLY legal right rear tire and all four corners must be Hoosier tires. Fuel injected iron block 360 sprints must use the Hoosier 105/16 Medium and carbureted spec sprints can still use their local track legal Hoosier tires with USAC/CRA.

The USAC Western Classic Sprints can use the Hoosier HTW/HT2s at their first two shows (4/5 Calistoga and 4/6 Calistoga). Starting with the April 25th show at Kings Speedway, the Hoosier 105/16 Medium will be the ONLY legal right rear tire and all four corners must be Hoosier. Carbureted Spec Sprints can still use their track legal Hoosier tires with the Western Classic Sprints.

Starting at the March 6th event at Las Vegas, the Hoosier 105/16 Medium will be the ONLY legal right rear tire for the USAC West Coast Sprints. The Hoosier DT3, RC3, and VRA tires are no longer legal and all four corners must be Hoosier. Carbureted Spec Sprints can still use their track legal Hoosier tires with the West Coast Sprints.

In the Midwest, the MSCS Sprints and several Indiana tracks (Bloomington, Gas City, Kokomo, Lawrenceburg, Lincoln Park, Terre Haute, and Tri-State) will also adopt the Hoosier Medium 105/16.

The Hoosier Medium 105/16 is used throughout the country and is currently the required spec tire for:
USAC (Southwest Sprints and West Coast Sprints)
ASCS (American Sprint Car Series - All Divisions)
USCS (United Sprint Car Series)
SOD (Sprints on Dirt)
Attica, OH (Weekly 410 and 305 Sprints)
Fremont, OH (Weekly 410 and 305 Sprints)
Knoxville, IA – (Weekly 360 and 305 Sprints)
UMSS (Upper Midwest Sprint Series)
NCRA (National Championship Racing Association)
MOWA (Midwest Open Wheel Association)

The Hoosier Medium 105/16 is an option tire for:
World of Outlaws
All Star Circuit of Champions
IRA (Interstate Racing Association)
NOSA (Northern Outlaw Sprint Association)
OVSCA (Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association)
VRA (Ventura Racing Association)
Perris, CA (Seniors & Young Guns)

The USAC Western Awards Banquet will be held February 8th at the Santa Maria Museum of Flight, 3015 Airpark Drive, Santa Maria, CA 93455. Catered by Stinky’s Grill, tickets are $45 and the event is open to all racers, crew members, family, and friends. Hotel and ticket information is posted on the event flyer that can be downloaded at: westcoastsprintcars.com/images/fpposter14/14banquet.jpg or westcoastsprintcars.com/images/fpposter14/14banquet.pdf.
