Saturday’s event will mark the thirteenth USAC SouthWest race of the season at Canyon Speedway Park. Phoenix’s R.J. Shon Deskins of Phoenix holds the 1-lap qualifying track record of 13.827, set at last year’s “Brawl For It All” on September 28th.

After winning the “Sin City Showdown” at Las Vegas on March 6th, Austin Liggett of Tracy, California sits atop the “Grudge Series” point chase. Piloting the family owned #83 Excel Environmental Services / Home Connections Inc. Spike, Liggett took the lead from J.J. Yeley on lap three and stormed to his first USAC Sprint Car feature win. Driving Bill Michaels’ #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, Johnson raced to third at Casa Grande last Saturday after starting tenth. To date, the defending SouthWest Champion has ten feature wins, twelve heat race victories, one hard charger award, twenty-five top-10 finishes, and 177 feature laps led to his credit.

Matt Mitchell of Yorba Linda, California took over the USAC West Coast point lead after claiming his first series win at Watsonville on August 8th and scoring fourth at Chowchilla the following night. Racing his #37 Campbell Bros. Storage / Pit Boss Maxim, Mitchell three heat race victories, one semi-main win, two hard charger awards, eleven top-10 finishes, and 30 feature laps led on the season.

Inaugural “Brawl For It All” winner “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr., Josh Pelkey, Shon Deskins, Matt Rossi, “The Magic Man” Mike Martin, “The Kid” Tye Mihocko, Andy Reinbold, Michael Curtis, and Nick Aiuto round out the top-10 drivers in the USAC SouthWest point standings.

Markus Niemela, Richard Vander Weerd, Jace Vander Weerd, Ryan Bernal, “Hollywood” Danny Faria Jr., Troy Rutherford, Austin Liggett, Nic Faas, and Dennis Howell are chasing Matt Mitchell in the USAC West Coast points.
