By Lance Jennings
JANUARY 19,
2016… On Friday, January 22nd, the “5th Annual Winter
Challenge” will kickoff the new season for the USAC SouthWest

nights, Canyon Speedway in Peoria, Arizona will host the
non-point “Arizona Speed Week.” Racing will start at 5:00pm on
weekends and 7:00pm on weekdays. In addition, the track will
have an open practice on Thursday, January 21st, from 6pm to
9pm. For more event, ticket, and practice information, visit

Promoted by

Challenge” history with three victories. The Midwest drivers
are followed by Bernal, five-time Arizona Champion “Chargin”
Charles Davis Jr. (Buckeye, Arizona), and Bacon with two
triumphs. Three-time USAC SouthWest Champion R.J. Johnson
(Laveen, Arizona), Colby Copeland (Roseville, California), Jon
Stanbrough (Avon, Indiana), and Richard Vander Weerd (Visalia,
California) have one win to their credit.
Visiting
drivers will have to contend with a strong Arizona contingent
featuring Johnson, Davis, 2014 Western World Champion Matt
